On joining HHS in Year 7 students are initially grouped by prior attainment. This allows a smooth transition for students, for whom joining high school can be a daunting prospect.

The year group is split into two populations, C and H, each population being then split into sets.

The Curriculum 2019/20

KS3

The curriculum is arranged around a 50 period 60 minute 2 week timetable and the number of periods allocated to each subject per fortnight at KS3 is as follows:

Year 7

Year 8

Year 9, 10 and 11

Students in these year groups follow a core curriculum of maths, English, single sciences, R.E. / PSHE and P.E. These students continue to follow their option subjects from year 9. All option subjects have the same time allocation over the three years of study.

At KS4 students are in  populations which allow much greater flexibility when placing students into appropriate sets. The cohort is divided up into sets for maths, English, R.E. and science. These subjects set independently from each other. Thus, as an example, a student could be set 1 for English, set 3 for maths and set 4 for science. Students receive a wealth of information and guidance when choosing their options, as we know this can be a very difficult process. Every pupil and parent has the opportunity to meet with a member of SLT to help arrive at the very best choices for their child.

KS4

As in KS3, the KS4 curriculum is arranged around a 50 period 60 minute 2 week timetable and the number of periods allocated to each subject per week at KS4 is as follows:

Year 9

Year 9 Option Choices

*Available as option subjects otherwise pupils have 1 lesson per week

Year 10 Option Choices

*Available as option subjects otherwise pupils have 1 lesson per week

Year 11 Option Choices

Year 10

Year 11

KS4 Curriculum Enhancements
In addition to the above, individual timetables are provided for a small number of pupils for whom an individual programme would be more appropriate.
