The library is open daily and is well-used by pupils at break and lunch times as a place to read, study, use the computers or play a board game.

It houses an extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction books which are constantly updated, and all pupils are encouraged to borrow these books. The library promotes a strong reading ethos and recognises the importance of reading for pleasure as contributing to pupils’ success.

The library also hosts bi-weekly Library lessons for Years 7 and 8 pupils with the English department. In these lessons, pupils access the Renaissance Reading programme and complete quizzes on the books they have read over the fortnight. Pupils’ efforts and achievements with this programme are regularly rewarded. Many pupils achieve the coveted status of being a ‘Word Millionaire’.

A dedicated team of Pupil Librarians also help out in the library. They play a very important role in the organisation of this facility and assist with the day-to-day running of it and supporting other users. This is a popular post to hold and new assistants join the team each year.
